AIIMS First Cadaveric Multi-Organ & Tissue Retrieval Workshop

ORBO organized  “AIIMS First Cadaveric Multi-Organ and Tissue Retrieval Workshop” at AIIMS, New Delhi. The workshop was for Faculty and Resident Doctors of AIIMS. Faculties and Residents from Department of Surgery, Department of Urology, Department of GI Surgery, Department of CTVS and Department of Orthopaedics were trained.

Organ Retrieval Banking Organization-ORBO is the nodal centre of the institute for coordination of various activities pertaining to organ & tissue transplantation.

ORBO has been actively engaged in organizing various awareness activities regarding importance of organ & tissue donation. The mandatory ongoing training programmes for residents and nursing officers are also being conducted by ORBO.

Transplantation is a specialized field and AIIMS should maintain its supremacy in this field too. We are doing Heart & Kidney transplants on regular basis and there is need to increase number of Liver & pancreas transplants. We have now got license for lung transplantation too and soon we should be able to start the lung transplantation programme. We have fully functional Heart valve bank, Cornea bank and Bone bank and they are doing a commendable job.

ORBO has taken the initiative in organizing “First Multi Organ Retrieval Hands on cadaver Workshop” for benefit of future consultants.

Robust training programmes are necessary to enhance the technical expertise of the young surgeons in performing various transplants.Organizing workshops of this kind are essential and I urge ORBO to conduct such types of workshops on regular basis for the benefit of budding surgeons.

I am happy that you all have come together in organizing this workshop. I wish this workshop will be fruitful in realizing its objective of enhancing the surgical skills of the residents in organ and tissue retrieval as well as making them aware about various facets of Organ & tissue transplantation.
